Ed Waters on emerging technologies: Published in ComputerScope December 2013
Ed Waters, Enterprise Sales Director, Island Networks, talks to ComputerScope magazine about his view on helping organisations determine the best use of existing storage infrastructure while taking advantage of emerging technologies by using FlexPod in Ireland. This interview was published in ComputerScope’s December 2013 issue.
Most CIO’s have goals to do more with less resources and industry analyst Gartner report that organisations’ IT budgets are typically consumed as follows: 60% – 70% running what they have; 20% supporting growth; and approximately 10% on business transformation. It is through this transformation that IT can deliver a real competitive advantage to the business, so by shifting their spend towards business transformation CIO’s can achieve their goals.
Island Networks’ specialises in helping organisations achieve this business transformation by delivering the benefits of implementing a converged IT infrastructure, specifically FlexPod, using technology from the industry leaders NetApp, Cisco, VMware, Microsoft and Citrix. These benefits include: increased ability for the business to react quickly to changes in the external or internal environment; and reduced capital spend through increased IT asset utilisation.
FlexPod is flexible in nature and is unique in that it can be deployed into existing NetApp or Cisco environments as well as into new infrastructures. It can also be enhanced to take advantage of new emerging technologies such as Flash Storage, the Software Defined Data Centre and OpenStack software. Using these technologies organisations can create a simple scalable infrastructure that can also link up with cloud services such as Amazon AWS to significantly enhance existing infrastructures.
By specialising in converged infrastructure solutions Island Networks has a depth of expertise that sets it apart in the market.
